Στα χωριά Κοίλα και Μελία κατευθύνονται αυτήν την ώρα Αστυνομικές δυνάμεις για να ζητήσουν από τους κατοίκους να εγκαταλείψουν τα σπίτια τους αφού η φωτιά κινείται προς τα εκεί.
Η μάχη με τις φλόγες τελειωμό δεν θα έχει απ' ότι δείχνουν τα πράγματα στο Ν. Έβρου. Αυτήν την ώρα σε εξέλιξη βρίσκεται μεγάλη φωτιά που ξεκίνησε από την Λεύκιμη και κατεβαίνει προς τα νότια με μεγάλη ταχύτητα λόγω των ισχυρότατων ανέμων. Επί τόπου κάνουν συνεχείς ρίψεις νερού δύο πυροσβεστικά αεροπλάνα και το ελικόπτερο ενώ ισχυρότατες επίγειες δυνάμεις προσπαθούν να ανακόψουν την πορεία της.Η πορεία της είναι προς το Τριφύλλι και την Πυλαία ενώ τα μέτωπά της είναι πάρα πολλά. Ήδη έχει γίνει αντιληπτή και στην Αλεξανδρούπολη που λόγω του αέρα υπάρχει καπνός.

Λευκίμης: Οι επίγειες πυροσβεστικές δυνάμεις δεν έχουν πρόσβαση για τη κατάσβεση της πυρκαγιάς λόγω του δύσβατου της περιοχής και αναμένονται δυνάμεις κατάσβεσης απο τον εναέριο χώρο.
Λουτρά: Έχει αποφευχθεί ο κίνδυνος στο χωριό των Λουτρών λόγω αλλαγής πορείας των ανέμων.

The area around the town was founded at neolithic times. It was an important Thracian and Hellenistic town.The town was sacked by the Romans in 204. In the early 2nd century b.c, the Roman emperor Trajan creates a new city between the two hills surrounding the town and names it Plotinopolis, after his wife. The city would later be one of the most important town in Thrace, having her own Parliament.

Toronto has surpassed Vancouver as the most expensive place to live in Canada, according to an annual report released on Tuesday, with Calgary listed as the 96th most expensive.

Cost-of-living research firm Mercer released its global survey of 214 cities this morning, revealing the most expensive places to live for 2011. Overall, the Canadian cities are becoming more expensive, mostly due to the strength of the Canadian dollar.

The report said Toronto pulled ahead of Vancouver this year due to high rental costs.

Overall, African, Asian and European cities dominated the rankings, occupying all but one spot in the top 10. Mercer analysts say that, while gas prices pushed prices higher in North America, that growth was outpaced by what was seen in the previously mentioned three continents.

Luanda, Angola and N'Djamena, Chad were ranked first and third respectively. Mercer said expats' accommodation and food costs drove the high placement of many African cities.

Beyond Africa, Mercer said Australia saw some of the sharpest jumps in cost of living in the last year, with Sydney surging 10 places to 14th, Melbourne to 21st from 33rd, and Perth jumping a staggering 30 spots to rank 30th.

Greek diaspora bond issue aimed at wealthy high achievers

The Greek diaspora bond issue will be aimed at wealthy high achievers – among them, Jennifer Aniston, whose father was born in Crete. 

Newly invigorated by the European Union's decision to ease the terms of its gargantuan bailout, debt-stricken Greece has begun wooing its wealthy community overseas in the hope that it will rally around the homeland.

Athens hopes that a winning mix of nostalgia for the old country and the whiff of a good deal will entice ethnic Greeks abroad to buy diasporabonds. The socialist government recently filed a shelf-registration with US regulators to proceed with the issue, in what officials called a prelude to the country re-entering capital markets.

"When the Israelis went through a similar crisis they found a new weapon through diaspora bonds," the deputy foreign minister, Dimitris Dollis, told the Guardian. "After talks with the Jewish lobby in the US, and leadership in Israel, we decided to issue them too."

Originally announced in New York by Greece's US-born prime minister George Papandreou, himself a product of the diaspora, the programme foresees Athens raising up to $3bn (£1.9bn) from the bonds in a series of quarterly sales. Officials say they are aiming for a yield of below 5% with likely maturities of between three and 10 years.

Since being bailed out by the EU and IMF to the tune of ¤110bn after it came close to bankruptcy last May, Greece has been unable to sell bonds with a maturity longer than six months. Its credit rating, sharply downgraded by Moody's this month, now lies deep in junk territory.

An estimated 11 million people of Greek descent live abroad – the same as the entire population of Greece. With many wealthy high achievers among their number – from the Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston, whose father was born in Crete, to the UK's Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of easyJet, and property tycoons the Candy brothers – they represent a source of funding to be tapped.

Australia embraces Greek Economic Crisis

The Greek economic crisis has led to a sharp increase in the number of highly skilled and educated Greek nationals seeking opportunities outside Greece. The main destinations of choice for Greeks include the UK, US and other European nations. There has also been a significant rise in the number of Greeks seeking to work and study in Australia.

The purpose of this report is to outline the ways in which Greek nationals can make a valuable contribution to the economic and social fabric of Australian society and to suggest practical reforms to the Australian immigration process to facilitate the entry of Greek visa applicants to Australia.

At present, the main avenues through which Greeks are seeking entry to Australia are the permanent and temporary visa programs, including the business skills program, skilled migration program, student visa program and family migration program.

A significant proportion of Greeks are skilled, highly educated and largely fluent in English. They are attractive candidates for Australian migration.

People of Greek descent have unquestionably integrated well into the Australian community and assisted in the social and economic development of Australia. The 2006 Australian Census records 109,980 Greece-born migrants, and 365,145 people of Greek ancestry living in Australia (based on country of birth of parents). Some estimates suggest the Greek community in Australia could be as large as 600,000. The Greek population is concentrated in Melbourne (41 per cent) and Sydney (30 per cent). Australia has embraced Greek people and Greek culture and this has benefitted Australian society socially, culturally and economically. In short, Greeks 'fit into' the Australian community and contribute to its prosperity.

Despite this, Greek Nationals are facing significant challenges in applying for entry to Australia under the existing visa streams.

By introducing and implementing a number of key changes to the Australian visa application and processing system, Greeks will be able to more easily and effectively enter Australia to meet skills shortages and make a positive impact to the economic and social landscape in this country. We understand that Australia's migration legislation, policies and procedures are non-discriminatory in nature and we are not seeking any special or preferential treatment for Greek visa applicants. Rather, we are suggesting some small scale practical reforms to the current system to allow Greeks to more easily apply for the visas for which they are eligible.

Married man runs over his girlfriend with his wife's car - New York Post

A married man driving his wife’s car mowed down a female friend and then left her bleeding in the street as he sped off — only to wind up critically injured in a crackup five hours later, authorities said.

Ricky Pena, 28, of The Bronx, struck the 23-year-old woman with the 2006 Honda Pilot SUV at 3:12 a.m. yesterday on West 46th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, then sped away, police said.

The woman works at the nearby El Tequilazo bar, sources said. Authorities described the woman as Pena’s girlfriend.

Later, at 8:13 a.m., Pena crashed the Honda, which is registered in his wife’s name on the Harlem River Drive near 174th Street, police said.

He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was in serious condition.

The hit-and-run victim was taken to Bellevue in stable condition with a gash on her forehead.

Detectives are still trying to piece together if the woman was intentionally run over by Pena, if he mistakenly hit her after she jumped in front of his vehicle, or even if she was actually clinging to the Honda as he tried to drive away and was thrown from the SUV.

The Church was ready to contribute to help the country, Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said after a meeting with the head of the Church, Archbishop Ieronymos. The minister said he was "very optimistic on cooperation prospects with the church over practical measures that could alleviate the plight of those who need help the most."Archbishop Ieronymos described the talks as "very constructive" and vowed "the church would continue to fight for the people in these crucial times." According to a source in the church, the talks focused on an inventory of a large part of the church's real estate assets which cannot be used due to legal obstacles. The church is the country's second-largest land owner after the state. The assets could be brought into a fund jointly managed by the church and the state, the source said on condition of anonymity. The state would lift legal restrictions and the profits would be poured back into the church's charities and social services. The Orthodox Church in Greece is part of the state and plays an active role in lay affairs. It commands much political clout in a country where some 90 percent of the population are baptised into the Orthodox faith, and in the past has used its power to hold off state efforts to increase taxes on its considerable wealth. The church has come under intense criticism, particularly from the left, since the Greek crisis erupted. They have focussed on what they say is the lack of accounting transparency, the tax breaks it enjoys and the fact that priests' salaries are paid by the state. Blinded UBC student arrives back in Vancouver

An emotional and humble Rumana Manzur tearfully thanks Canadians for their support as the disfigured UBC student returned to Vancouver.

The woman, a victim of a horrific domestic assault in Bangladesh that left her blinded, was wheeled off a plane in a wheelchair at Vancouver International Airport.

She was wearing dark sunglasses over her gouged eyes, the but scabs and sores over her nose and face showed the lasting results of the alleged beating at the hands of her husband.

But even in her condition, Manzur was grateful to be back in Canada, where she will receive treatment at UBC in an attempt to save her vision.

“It feels great to be great here among you beautiful people. I want to see you beautiful people again, I really do,” Manzur sobbed. “I want to thank all of you for supporting me in this crucial period of my life.”

Several family, friends and fellow students greeted Manzur at the airport.
The emotional homecoming was a powerful moment for student Mohsen Seddigh.

“Seeing her up close, I know what she must have been through. It must have been devastating for her,” he said. “I told her we’re glad to have her back and that we love her.”

After her brief remarks to a throng of awaiting media, Manzur was whisked away from the airport surrounded by family and driven away.

She asked people to pray for her successful recovery.

Growing up

Narcissism is a normal and natural stage of psychological development. The word comes from the mythical Narcissus, who fell in love with his own image reflected in the water. A narcissist is someone who is self-absorbed. A three year old child is self-absorbed. He wants the toy, so he gets it. If another child cries over the toy, oh well. At three years of age, a child cannot see things from someone else’s perspective but their own. That’s normal. When the self-absorbed narcissist is thirty years old, that’s pathological.

By developing psychologically, a person becomes able to take more perspectives than his or her own. The eg0-centric stage of development allows access for only one perspective: “I” (my, me, mine). The next stage of development allows one to take a second perspective: “You” – which is the condition to have a “We”. Then, as one grows up further, he or she can take a third perspective: “It” (or he, she, and they).

The grown-up narcissist is self-absorbed. He cannot put himself in other people’s shoes. He only has access to his own perspective: “What I think / feel / want”. The world revolves around them. Their life motto is: “I want it, I get it”. And they see everybody else as if they were living by the same motto as well.

The short ‘attraction’ phase of our relationship quickly turned into the power struggle phase, which never evolved to a collaboration phase. One reason was that I was a narcissist too. I didn’t see further than my own needs and desires, my own frustrations and pain. I used to cry night after night, wondering what I did wrong, why is this happening to me, how can I get out of this misery.

Then one day I started asking this man I had married: What makes you say or do that? My conversations switched from how “I” feel to “What’s it like being in your skin?” I had started to grow up.

If you are a woman reading this, please read on. Take a printout of this post with you on your date, as a checklist of signs to look out for. Or, if you’re married to a narcissist, just be aware, and then make your choices. But I warn you, you must play your part in growing up. Just blaming it on the man doesn’t work. I tried it for years. It sucks and doesn’t work. You have to grow up.

• You’ll be his trophey. Remember, the narcissist’s preoccupations are skin-deep. He identifies with the body, and he identifies you with your body as well. You’ll be his trophey to display to his buddies, and what he’ll value most in you are your breasts, or legs, or lips – or brand-name clothes, or the car you drive. All men are visual, and they will first see your looks before they’ll see your personality, character and deeds. But the narcissist will only see your looks. And if your looks are not up to par, he won’t show you to his buddies or his folks. Narcissus needs Echo by his side.
• The narcissist cannot love you. He may be infatuated with an image that he has about you, to the extent to which you serve his needs well. Once you don’t fulfill his needs and wants, he won’t care whether you’re dead or alive. He just can’t. To love you he must know you, and take an interest in who you are as a person, take an interest in your world, learn to say something in your mother tongue, find out who your friends are and why you like them. The narcissist will invest time, attention and money in you for as long as you are an asset to him. Not one more moment after.
• The narcissist in love sounds like this: “I love you. I miss you. I can’t stop thinking about you. You’re hot. You turn me on. I am attracted to you. I want to make love to you all night long.”

It’s very flattering, I know. It’s easy to fall for the serenades. I know I did, over and over again. But that onld song turned into noise. You want to know what the man in my dreams sounds like?

“You are a beautiful, and an interesting woman. What made you choose to do what you’re doing? What do you like most about it? What would you change if you could? How many siblings are you at home? Where do your parents live, and how often do you get to see them? Can I see some of your childhood pictures? My favourite food is Indian and Thai. What about you? What do you like? What’s the name of your favourite author? Why?”

Looking in your eyes, a narcissist sees himself. Looking deeply in your eyes, the Dream Lover sees your Soul, if he loves this song but only just refers to it when he is trying to deceive his next victim,  you will know when he clips your wings instead of showing you how to fly with him, then you will know he used the words of the song to trap your heart, his goal  was to trap and cage your mind and body and torment you with the images of the man you want him to be, but a man he can never become because he is a narcissist and will never grow up to become a real man,  he will never live up to the image of the man in your dreams. *greekspirit*

According to the American Psychological Association, 

people with narcissistic personality disorder display a chronic and pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy. The Greek myth has it that Narcissus died enraptured by the beauty of his own reflection in a pool and feel forever in love with his own reflection. The Narcissist displays an operating style that involves extreme self-involvement, and a grandiose sense of self- importance. They exaggerate their achievements and talents, expecting others to recognize them as superior and often appearing arrogant and extremely self absorbed.

Preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, or beauty, they require the constant attention and admiration of those around them, although they are very choosy about the people and institutions they will associate closely with. They often admit to being snobs and are actually proud of it. They also believe that their problems are unique and can be appreciated only by other “special” high - status people. Despite their charm, the favorable first impression they make, and their wide circle of notable acquaintances, people with this disorder are rarely able to maintain a stable, long-term relationship. With their boastful and pretentious manner, narcissistic persons are seldom receptive to the feelings of others. They show a general lack of empathy, an inability or unwillingness to recognize and identify with your thoughts and needs. Many are often successful, impressively knowledgeable, and articulate, yet bored and doubt ridden as well.

Conversely, healthy narcissism is essential for emotional well-being. We need narcissism to feel confident in ourselves, and to give adequate consideration to others. NOTE: The healthy narcissist does not focus exclusively on themselves, demanding that the world reflect back their false manufactured sense of self and an image of idealized perfection.

KEY: Early childhood conditioning also plays a part. The child’s real or authentic self has generally been ignored, or the child’s self may have been attacked and assaulted while the parents placed demands on the child to be “perfect.” When that occurs, the type of behavior we associate with a narcissistic disorder is overindulged. Fiercely driven to achieve, children never develop the capacity to consider others’ needs.  Enter adulthood, and the same traits naturally carry over.

What To Watch Out For

Most people with this disorder advertise themselves… They seek to be the center of attention. In search of constant approval and praise to reinforce their false grandiose sense of self, they’re “on- stage,” dominating the conversation, often exaggerating their importance.

They lack empathy for others and have an inflated sense of entitlement, requiring others to respond to their demands and grant favors.  They need everything for themselves and are envious of others’ accomplishments and possessions.

Criticism or disapproval takes them back to their difficult childhoods, sending them into a defensive fury, since any flaw or mistake means they’re not perfect. Also, when things go wrong, they cannot acknowledge the imperfections implicit in accepting responsibility.

Appearance matters more than substance. Power, wealth and beauty bolster their fragmented self-image.

They may be extremely driven because the “narcissistic fuel” of outside approval is so essential. Many are workaholics. Warning: this personality disorder may not be immediately obvious. Can you change them? Reality check: No. Even constructive criticism is experienced by them as an affront and is met with anger and a sense of betrayal. Placating only results in more demands, not a return of thoughtfulness and consideration. In fact, if you always excuse or rationalize self-absorption and give in to constant demands, you are actually supporting and reinforcing their narcissistic needs and wants.
