Man with Incurable Lung Cancer, Turned Down Chemo and Outlived All His Doctors

“Herbs have a fascinating place in the local culture, as both food and folk medicine. Sage tea with honey was “our childhood antibiotic,” as my friend Yiorgos Stenos, 84, told me. Ikarians still drink this when they feel a cold coming on, as they do oregano for stomach aches, chamomile for insomnia, and more. Most of these infusions are mild diuretics, helping relieve hypertension, perhaps one reason locals have relatively little heart disease.”

The lesson here is simple yet profound: Wholesome, seasonal food prepared with love is potent medicine, spending time connecting with mother nature’s life force can help rekindle an individual’s will to live, having a reason or purpose to continue living is essential for healing, and last but far from least sharing quality time with loved ones when sick and recuperating, can transform the depressed mind back to a state of innocence, gratitude and awe of the mystery called life. In the end, real healing is the soul’s domain.

It should be mentioned that the Greek island of Ikaria has a well deserved reputation as a Mecca for longevity. The island is renowned for its abundant, locally grown food, which is traditionally prepared according to season, its slow pace and pristine, vibrant beauty, and its long lived, mostly healthy inhabitants, many of whom are centenarians. In fact, Ikarians rarely fall prey to today’s most common killer lifestyle diseases like heart disease and cancer.

To "PHILOTIMO" tou Ellina !! Philotimo is considered to be the highest of all Greek virtues which determines and regulates how someone should behave in their family and social groups. It is mostly about respect and doing the right thing. In its simplest form it means "doing good", and it ensures your behavior will make you stand out from others. It will demonstrate what kind of a person you are and the manner in which you were brought up. Philotimo to a Greek is essentially a way of life. Philotimo is the feeling of not being able to do enough for your family, society and your community; it is expressed through acts of generosity and sacrifice without expecting anything in return. Philotimo is to get more satisfaction from giving than from taking.

€100/Month Truth About Greek People’s Salaries - Greek Reporter

The situation for Greek employees is getting worse by the month. Recent data released by theGreek Labor Ministry state that 126,956 private-sector employees are only receiving gross salaries of 100 euros per month. A total of 343,760 employees are either classified as part-time or casual workers and receive a gross salary ranging from 100 to 400 euros.
Each month shows figures more disastrous than the month before with September’s figures revealing the complete deregulation of the job market that shows that part-time jobs have peaked over the 50 percent threshhold, surpassing full-time employment. New recruitments from January to September showed that 51.5 percent of people hired were employed for part-time jobs, compared to 48.5 percent working on full-time contracts.

It is impossible to find a home for Olive here as there are so many abandoned animals in need that any animal lover here already cares for multiple pets, while in Athens many live in apartments allowing no pets at all. My daughters and I dedicated weeks of holiday time and funds for medical costs to help Olive recover but now we are faced with the export costs to Australia.

Olive needs to be held in Athens for 6 months in order to meet stringent Australian criteria. Kennel costs, microchip, passport, blood tests, vaccinations, ministry papers, registrations, air fares, quarantine, import permit.... the list goes on.

Costs will be in excess of $8,500.00
Please help us bring little Olive home.
Any funds that exceed our costs will be forwarded to Christine Graves who runs an animal welfare and shelter in Athens. Christine has taken on our plight and will be coordinating Olives export from Athens on our behalf.

If we can get 450 people to donate $20 each towards getting  Olive to Australia she will be well on her way to a very happy rest of her life in Port Elliot South Austraia

Thassos Fire 2016

Nearly 300 firefighters, volunteers and soldiers are striving to contain large forest fires on the northern Greek island of Thasos, which has damaged homes and forced the evacuation of a village. The Greek authorities have instituted a state of emergency and several localities (Aliki, Prinos Kazaviti, Rachoni, Agios Panteleimonas) and two monasteries (Archangel Michael and St. Panteleimon) have been evacuated.
The fire started Saturday, September 10, in four different villages (Rachoni, Limenaria, Prinos, Aliki), as a result of lightning, and then expanded in southern areas of the island with the wind blowing heavily in the north -south.
"All measures are taken to protect the life of people on the island," Thassos Mayor Kostas Hatziemmanouil said. The fire department also declared that at least eight houses were damaged in the central, mountain village of Kazaviti, which was evacuated.

4 Things You Need To Hear When You’re Emotionally Exhausted

Slow down and everything you are chasing will come around and catch you.” ~John De Paola
You’re on the verge of burnout.
You’re unmotivated to perform even the simplest of tasks. You’re physically and emotionally isolated. Slight annoyances cause you to snap.
You may be blaming your work, other people, or circumstances. But if you dig a little deeper, you may be surprised to learn that your own choices have led to emotional exhaustion. This is good news because it means that you can alleviate your own pain without the permission or blessing of another person.
In my junior year of college, I experienced a bout of intense mental and emotional exhaustion. I was pursuing two demanding majors and the heavy workload had finally caught up with me.
Desperate to find a way to motivate myself to finish college, I bought Tony Robbins’ Personal Power motivational program after watching his infomercial on late night television.
As I delved into the lessons, I fully expected Tony Robbins to motivate me back to good emotional health. Instead, I learned that I needed to take full responsibility for my emotional state. I learned that I had all the tools I needed to nurse myself back to emotional and spiritual health.

A 3-Year-Old Boy Recalls Past Life, Locates His Body and Identifies The Man Who Murdered Him

We’ve all experienced the unexplainable in life at one point or another, whether it be déjà vu or out of body experiences. Yet it can be easy to forget that what we consider unusual or out of the ordinary as adults were innately accepted and understood when we were children, prior to our conditioning.  This is becoming more and more apparent as cases of children who remember past lives continue to surface around the world.
The story you are about to hear is true.  Imagine you are the parents of a young child and as soon as the child can talk and express ideas, he begins to refer adamantly to a past life he has had.  How would you respond?
In the case of this young man, there was more than just talk going on.  He continuously insisted that he remembered a past life and that in that life he was murdered.  The boy led his parents to a very specific spot and told them that this is where he had died.  The parents felt compelled to give in and begin digging at the spot.
Can you guess what they found?  Yes, a corpse!  To add to the fascination of this amazing story, the boy also led his parents to the location of the ax that was used in his murder and this is thought to explain the red mark he was born with on his forehead.

The last wishes of Alexander the Great

The last wishes of Alexander the Great.........
On his death bed, Alexander summoned his army generals and told them his three ultimate wishes:

1. The best doctors should carry his coffin ...
 2. The wealth he has accumulated (money, gold, precious stones) should be scattered along the procession to the cemetery ...
 3. His hands should be let loose, so they hang outside the coffin for all to see !!

One of his generals who was surprised by these unusual requests asked Alexander to explain .

Here is what Alexander the Great had to say :
 1. "I want the best doctors to carry my coffin to demonstrate that in the face of death , even the best doctors in the world have no power to heal .."
 2. "I want the road to be covered with my treasure so that everybody sees that material wealth acquired on earth , will stay on earth.."
 3. I want my hands to swing in the wind, so that people understand that we come to this world empty handed and we leave this world empty handed after the most precious treasure of all is exhausted, and that is : TIME.

We do not take to our grave any material wealth. TIME is our most precious treasure because it is LIMITED. We can produce more wealth, but we cannot produce more time.

The Astrology of May – a Retrograde Season to Remember

The astrology of May features Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto. This is a complex month when inner planet retrogrades bring a sense of confusion and potential upset, switching gears, and when all three outer planets are once again very much in evidence, signaling transformation. Mercury is retrograde for the entire month, and then some, when you take the period of its retrograde shadow into account. Mercury stations direct on Sunday, May 22nd, one day after a dramatic Full Moon that is closely conjunct retrograde Mars, so that this is one particularly strong weekend of the entire Mercury retrograde period. Mercury finally escapes its retrograde shadow next month, on June 7th. It is also fascinating to note that when the New Moon comes along, on Friday, May 6th, the Sun and Moon make a grand trine in Earth signs with Jupiter and Pluto, bringing the volatile forming square between Jupiter and Saturn fully into the picture, and Uranus-Pluto as well. This grand trine is formed once again when Mercury stations  at 14 degrees of Taurus. Jupiter in mid-Virgo stations this month also, and remains in all month in close contra-parallel with Neptune in Pisces, opposite Jupiter. With all the outer planets triggered in this way, what we have is another rather intense monthly cycle, with plenty of introspective moments and with other-dimensional intimations that nudge us into the personal evolution here in earthly realms that our higher selves apparently long ago signed up for...

The Ancient Greeks’ 6 Words for Love

Today's coffee culture has an incredibly sophisticated vocabulary. Do you want a cappuccino, an espresso, a skinny latte, or maybe an iced caramel macchiato?
Eros involved a loss of control that frightened the Greeks.
The ancient Greeks were just as sophisticated in the way they talked about love, recognizing six different varieties. They would have been shocked by our crudeness in using a single word both to whisper "l love you" over a candlelit meal and to casually sign an email "lots of love."
So what were the six loves known to the Greeks? And how can they inspire us to move beyond our current addiction to romantic love, which has 94 percent of young people hoping—but often failing—to find a unique soul mate who can satisfy all their emotional needs?

Mental Illness - We’re killing off our prophets. We’re drugging our messiahs

Were she alive today, Sylvia Plath would be on anti-depressants. Salvador Dali would be on anti-psychotics. Beethoven would be on Lithium. Newton would likely be committed as well as heavily drugged for his multiple, pervasive mental illness symptoms.
Don’t even get me started on Jesus Christ.
Heroin addiction is as much a symptom of spiritual malaise as it is a cure. Michael Largo, in his book, Genius and Heroin: The Illustrated Catalogue of Creativity, Obsession, and Reckless Abandon Through the Age, makes the powerful argument that many of the geniuses who pushed our culture forward perished from the psychic strain of doing so.
If you’re thinking that medications would have decreased these people’s suffering while allowing their gifts and talents to be explored, I’d suggest reading Ken’s book for a sobering look at the effects of Lithium. Then, go on Google and look up some common mental illness medications, their symptoms, and their side effects.

Toxic attraction between a Narcissist and an Empath

An empath is authentic and is desperate to live true to their soul’s purpose and will very likely find the whole relationship a huge lesson, a dodged bullet and painfully awakening. A narcissist will struggle to have any connection to their authentic self and will likely walk away from the relationship very easily once they realise they have lost their ability to control the empath. The game is no longer pleasurable if they are not having their ego constantly stroked, so they will seek out their next victim. The ability for these two types to bond is quite simply impossible. The narcissist’s heart is closed, an empath’s is open—it is nothing short of a recipe for a huge disaster, and not a beautiful one.

“Philotimo to a Greek is like breathing, a Greek is not a Greek without it.” - Tales

Greece is a stunning country with kind, beautiful people and a fascinating history. The ancient Greeks left us with a huge heritage, things you probably never knew were invented by them: the automatic doors, cement, central heating, coin money, maps, plumbing, sinks, showers, the wheelbarrow, the alarm clock,… Without them we wouldn’t be what we are now and certainly wouldn’t have what we have today (well, on an early Monday morning you maybe wish they never invented the alarm clock …)!
The Greek language and specifically Greek mythology and science has had a tremendous influence on the English language. In our everyday lives we use the root of Greek words and definitions all the time. But there is one Greek word that isn’t integrated in our language. A word we should integrate not only in our vocabulary but also in our hearts. A word that can bring meaning into all our lives:
It’s hard to translate or even to describe in one word what philotimo means. It’s a Greek word without a proper definition. The word comes from the Greek root words “filos”, meaning friend, and “timi”, meaning honor. The meaning of philotimo extends far beyond the words friend and honor. It encompasses the concepts of pride in self, pride in family, pride in community and doing the right thing. It’s a behavior and you have to experience it to really understand it. Philotimo gives a meaning to life that stretches beyond ourselves. It’s an awareness in the heart that motivates the good deeds that a person does.
