James Galanos- Fashion Designer

James Galanos ([gulAn´Os]) (born 1925) is an Greek American fashion designer, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His clients have included such celebrities as Diana Ross and actress Rosalind Russell. His most famous client is former First Lady Nancy Reagan, wife of former President Ronald Reagan, for whom he designed gowns. His work is characterized by exacting craftsmanship, particularly in the extensive use of hand beading, full, loose dresses and chiffon coats over simple sheaths, as well as the extensive use of silk fabrics.
Galanos attended Bridgeton High School in Bridgeton, New Jersey[1], and went on to graduate from Traphagen School of Fashion in New York in 1943. He worked for fashion designers in Paris and New York City, including Hattie Carnegie and film costume designer Jean Louis. He opened Galanos Originals in Los Angeles in 1951.
Galanos won a host of awards during his career, including the Coty Fashion Award in both 1954 and 1956, as well as being inducted into the Coty Hall of Fame in 1959. He received the Council of Fashion Designers of America Lifetime Achievement Award in 1985. In the year 2000, the City of New York began honoring American fashion designers by placing bronze plaques along the pavement of 7th Avenue. Dubbed the "Fashion Walk of Fame", Galanos was one of the first designers to be so honored.
Though he officially retired in 1998, Galanos continues to make his presence known in the fashion world. In 2002, he blasted the fashion industry for catering to only young women with perfect bodies. In an interview with WWD Magazine, he said "How many women can wear just a patch over their crotch and a bra?" he asked over lunch at the Pierre, shaking his head in contempt. "Aren't you embarrassed when you see a young girl walking down the street practically naked?" Having reinvented himself as an abstract photographer, in 2006, at age 82, Galanos's first exhibition of photography was held at The Serge Sorokko Gallery[2][3] in San Francisco.
Galanos is the uncle of fine jewelry designer Diana Vincent, of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania.

Greek Band from Hungary - Mydros

www.mydros.hu
In Hungary, The Greek minority presently includes about 4000 people. Most of the merchants who have settled in the 17th century have assimilated. The history of Hungarian Greeks reaches back to 1948, when in the first wave of refugees, 840 Greek children arrived to our country. About 6-8 thousand Greeks followed them during the early 50’s. Most of the refugees were accomodated in disused buildings, e.g. in holiday camps. More than two thousand Greeks lived together in a tobacco factory, in a very closed community. The only Greek village abroad, Beloyannis was built in 1950. These fellowships were extremely heterogeneous because the familes that lived together came from the most different parts of Greece. They taught their special folk dances and songs to each other with big enthusiasm, therefore the complete cultural heritage of Greece became familiar among them.
Our band, Mydros was founded in 2001 by young Greeks and Hungarians, who have already known the Greek musical culture. In the camp of Greek Youth Club it was clearly visible that those teenagers need a young, enthusiastic band, which is flexible enough not only to accompany the dance ensembles on the stages of musical and national festivals, but to take part in camps.
Our two main goals were shortly outlined : to keep young Greeks enthused about their culture and to familiarize Hungarian people with this music, this dance, and this type of recreation.

It depicts the key players in Melbourne's criminal underworld, including the Carlton Crew and their rival, Carl Williams. The series is based on the book Leadbelly: Inside Australia's Underworld, by The Age journalists John Silvester and Andrew Rule,[1] and is produced by the Australian Film Finance Corporation,[2] in association with Film Victoria.[3] The executive producers are Des Monaghan and Jo Horsburgh.[2]
The legal DVD of Underbelly was released on 8 May 2008, a day after the final episode was aired on television. Due to the legal suppression, the release was not able to be distributed through any retail or rental outlets in Victoria or on the internet.[12] The Nine Network has aired two prequel to the series, Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities and Underbelly: The Golden Mile.[13]

Daryl Hannah helps with the fight to stop killing dolphins

Ric O'Barry, a former dolphin trainer and main character in Oscar-winning documentary The Cove, said he had invited Daryl and other Hollywood stars to the village to prevent the killings from starting again.
Daryl Hannah has been invited to the Japanese village
Ric, whose documentary has been cancelled in Japan following threats against cinema, said Daryl had confirmed her trip to the music festival he is holding in Taiji.
Other celebrities who have already voiced their support for his cause include Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Jason Mraz, Chris Tashima and Robin Williams who have all appeared in an advert in support of The Cove.
Ric believes his trip to Taiji last year with journalists brought international attention to the hunt and helped pressure fishermen to refrain from culling dolphins. This year he said he wants to bring 1,000 people to make sure the hunt doesn't start up again.

Thathela - Despina Vandi - Afieromeno
