Chiron and the wounded Christ
Chiron in astrology represents that of the wounded Christ. I imagine that moment of impact of spear on flesh when Christ was said to have uttered: “My god, my god why have you forsaken me?” I think that Chiron in astrology speaks to that moment of excruciating pain (physical, emotional or spiritual), which is complicated by an accompanying sense of abandonment. Chiron the centaur was abandoned by his parents, fyi. And, speaking of parentage, Christ was born of a divine father and immortal mother, just like Chiron. He was a healer – but that didn’t change the fact that Christ couldn’t get off the cross. Consider as well that Pisces – the sign that Chiron has now entered for the next eight years – is the zodiac sign associated with Christ and the Age of Christianity. Also look at the glyph for Chiron: it’s a key. A key is a way in, yes? And Christ’s words were: “I am the Way.” (John 14:6) Finally, consider that Chiron sacrificed his life in a bargain struck to end Prometheus’s daily torment. Prometheus was the unlucky dude that had his liver eaten by birds, only to have that liver grow back again so the birds could return and feast on him daily. That’s what you get for stealing fire from the gods, ladies and gentlemen.
The correlation with Christ is, of course, that he too sacrificed his life as a means of revealing that Life is Eternal - regardless of whether the body is strung up on a cross or running gaily through fields of clover. I’ll even go so far as to say that Christ was crucified, in a sense, for stealing fire from the gods (or rather, The God). Hey, he claimed to be God at a time when one’s experience with the Divine was seen as strictly external. God was out there or up there but certainly not in here. Today we may recognize the Divine in each and every person, but this would have been an unthinkable and heretic philosophy at the time that Jesus tried to promote it. I can only begin to imagine how such a claim would be seen by his country men as a form of hubris and blasphemy – a stealing of thunder or fire from their monotheistic deity.
Western civilization is huge, neither is it of any use to ignore the behemoth that is Christianity. My ideas aren’t necessarily popular with Christians many of whom see astrology as strictly verboten; and they may prove distasteful to astrologers, many of whom are loathe to connect astrology with a religion that has been an enormous source of wounding (more shades of Chiron) for countless souls over a couple thousand of years. I’m straddling two camps here - which suits the theme of half-this half that Chiron appropriately enough.
Now that transiting Chiron has settled into Pisces, he’s going to be hanging out on my natal Pisces Sun for a good long time. Later he’ll hook up with my natal Saturn (remember, Saturn is Chiron’s father), and later still, my natal Chiron. Clearly I’m being Chiron-ized. Perhaps what I offer you is slightly unorthodox. But I’m putting it out there with the conviction that we haven’t fully grasped the nature of the astrological Chiron yet. He’s only been ‘known’ for 33 years, folks. Whoops - there goes another connection to Jesus, who died at age 33. Welcome to your Jesus year, Chiron.

Chiron re visits Pisces

Last month, we had a celestially big energy shift with Jupiter's return to Aries. This month, an even bigger shift in energy occurs when Chiron leaves Aquarius for good. He's been transiting Aquarius since 2005 until last year when he made his initial entrance into Pisces on April 19 at 11:37 p.m. PST / April 20, 2010 at 2:37 a.m. EST. Then, while retrograde, he revisited Aquarius on July 20, 2010 and now, Chiron returns to Pisces and settles in until April 2018; and then again, from September 2018 to February 2019. He will not transit Aquarius again until 2056.

Venus and Pluto - loss of soul
What is Venus’ revenge for the suppression of beauty and joyful eroticism? What happens when sexuality gets twisted into pornography? This is when Venus goes down into the underworld with Pluto and erupts with a vengeance for our blatant disregard of pleasure and true relationship. She feels abused and she rebels, with perversion and pornography resulting—with all its emphasis on “power over another,” control issues, and disempowerment. Both men and women get caught in the illusions of control and pseudo-glamour, and unhappiness is often the outcome.
In astrology, we usually see this usually as the negative manifestation of Pluto, Scorpio and Neptune, often with 8th house undertones. It can also be a lower expression of Mars and Neptune in square or opposition as well. When Venus and Pluto in the birth chart are conjunct, in square, or opposition it doesn’t have to play out as “unrequited love” or unhappiness in relationship, or frustrated sexuality, or a tendency for triangular love affairs with impossible people—but it often plays out that way. Venus Pluto in conjunction, square and opposition challenges a person to explore the deepest dimensions of love, intimacy, and even beauty. Naivete is not welcome here, and relationships cannot be all about the honeymoon stage anymore. Venus/Pluto is truly capable of making true relationships work, when they are willing to do the hard work of relationship--when they have their eyes open.
The intimacy of a high expression of Venus/Pluto is based on love, and a delicate balance of two people as equal supporters of each other. There is often such hope and idealism in this combination mixed with a history of tragedy. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Often a person with the difficult aspects of these planets in their birth chart has had some history of abuse, either early in this life or in their past life. And because they know the territory, they can be the ones who can heal it for themselves as well as others. However, when relationship dynamics remain unconscious, the territory is often played out in the underworld and as an addiction.
So the downside of Venus and Pluto’s expression can be seen as a product of our consumer society, and a symptom of a “loss of soul.” Whether it be an individual or the culture, there’s a loss here—or a fear—of the positive Venus—the Venus that thrives on relationship, equality, and beauty. This is what happens when one cannot "feel" anymore. And of course, like an alcoholic or an addict, one drink or one drug is never enough. Edgar Cayce's vision of Atlantis
Foretold the discovery of the land from Atlantis
Cayce revealed that new land will appear in 1968 or 1969 off the east coast of North America, the so-called "rising of Atlantis".

“It is very likely a combination of the first two,” said Dimitris Sakellariou, at the Greek Institute of Oceanography. “As the world’s oldest submerged city it is truly amazing. Full moon in Cancer 19 January 2011 at 4.22pm EST 1.22pm PST and 9.22pm GMT
I cannot explain why but this feels like an incredibly special Full Moon. It is not an eclipse or a Super Moon but it is sending very spiritual vibrations. It is the 4th Full Moon at the 29th degree of its sign and speaks of the need for completion. This cycle of Lunations at the 29th degree began on Oct 22 with the Moon in Aries. The question was who are you? Who are you really? Then the Full Moon in Taurus on Nov 21 asked what do you truly value and how does it nourish your Soul. On Dec 21 the Lunar Eclipse, the red Moon, asked what do you really believe and are you living your truth. And now this Cancer Full Moon is asking are you ready to step onto your Spiritual Destiny/Soul Purpose Path? If the answer is yes it will require a letting go of the old way.
Our final Full Moon in this series is on Feb 18 at 29 degrees of Leo. The theme will be courage of your convictions, acknowledging the strength within, courage to be yourself, and acknowledging your connection to Source. This is also a Super Full Moon when Luna is closer to the Earth than usual. It is the first of 3 Super Moons; the next ones are March 19 and April 17. So for the next few months “expect the unexpected” and just learn to go with the flow. Whatever is happening know you are always supported by Creator and Great Mystery.
Our lovely Luna is very powerful when visiting the signs of Taurus, her exaltation, and Virgo, her Soul Centered sign. But in the sign of Cancer she is at home and emphasizes our roots, origins, and our link to our ancestral tribe. She stirs emotions and the need to belong. She symbolizes the home we grew up in, our family, particularly the nurturing parent, the home and family we have created for ourselves and our need for connection. At this Full Moon the Sun in Capricorn also focuses on the family but also career and our status in the world. Many people define themselves by their success in their chosen occupations. That is on the physical/material plane.
On the metaphysical plane the Moon in Cancer is the Great Universal Mother, the Goddess of a thousand names. She nurtures and nourishes our spirits, deepens our intuitive knowing, and guides us as we walk our Destiny Path. She teaches us to listen to the Divine Wisdom that lies deep within. At this Full Moon the Sun in Capricorn is asking us to identify our Soul Purpose and live it. What that means is to be fully conscious and make choices form your compassionate heart as you interact with important others in your life and the world.
The astrological symbol for Cancer is the Crab. This crustacean is a symbol for sensitivity, self protection, and hanging on to the past. These are all Cancerian characteristics and emotional lessons. The ancient symbols for this sign are the Scarab Beetle, the sacredness of life, and the Turtle, representing Mother Earth. The native Animal Totem is the Flicker, a member of the Woodpecker family. Its cycle of power is new rhythms of growth, healing, and love coming into your life. Flicker is also a symbol for transition and transformation. In nature the Flicker is in the process of changing from life in the trees to living on the ground. It is an indicator of a new path of spiritual growth.

Nausicaa
In this beautiful but somber painting, artist Frederic Leighton has depicted the Greek heroine Nausicaa. The story of Nausicaa appears in the Odyssey of Homer. In this epic poem, Nausicaa and Odysseus (the hero of the tale) meet and have a brief but memorable encounter. And it is made clear in the tale that the handsome hero Odysseus has awakened the desires of the young woman.
In this image, Nausicaa is represented standing against a wall, clad in garments inspired by ancient Greek art. The tones of the painting are muted, and the setting is simple. The lovely girl is portrayed with a pensive, perhaps wistful, expression.
One of the most striking things about this image is that it focuses solely on Nausicaa and her thoughts, rather than portraying the dramatic scene when she and Odysseus encounter each other for the first time. This emphasis on Nausicaa alone allows the viewer to appreciate the subtle beauty - and haunting story - of this compelling Greek figure.
Nausicaa in Myth
The story of the Greek heroine Nausicaa is told eloquently in the Odyssey of Homer. In this epic, she is the daughter of Alcinous, king of the Phaeacians.
In the Odyssey, there is a scene in which Odysseus reaches the land of the Phaeacians. While he sleeps, the goddess Athena (who, incidentally, favored the hero Odysseus and acted as his divine protector) visits the young princess of this land, Nausicaa. This moment is beautifully described in the Odyssey:
"...on this night the goddess, grey-eyed Athena,Athena, in the disguise of a young girl, tells Nausicaa to assist her maids in the washing of clothing the next morning. Nausicaa complies. While she and her companions are at the river, they engage in a game of ball, the noise of which rouses the hero Odysseus from his slumber. All of the other girls are terrified by the sight of the hero - all except the noble Nausicaa. Nausicaa demonstrates her bravery (no doubt bolstered by the goddess Athena) and offers Odysseus food and clothing. Ultimately, the beauty and charm of the princess represent another of the many temptations that Odysseus encounters on his long journey home

Chiron
The Archer, as the constellation is called, commemorates one of the more heroic figures of the zodiac. This mythical figure is Chiron, the kindest and gentlest of the Centaurs. Centaurs were half man, half horse. Although many of them were stupid and violent, Chiron was known for his wisdom, his caring nature and his ability to teach. He was immortal; his father was Kronos and his mother was a daughter of the sea god Oceanus. Chiron tutored the young Greek heroes Achilles and Jason, among others. He was renowned among the Greeks, although he lived by himself in a cave in the countryside. Heracles shot him with an arrow by accident. The hero had been trying to wipe out the other vicious centaurs which were plaguing the countryside. He had no intention of shooting Chiron, and was extremely remorseful. Although Chiron used his medical skills on the wound, it was incurable. Heracles' arrows were tipped with the deadly venom of the Lernean Hydra, which killed any victim it touched. But the centaur was an immortal, which changed the situation. Chiron was in terrible agony, but he could not die, although he wanted to. Prometheus the Titan saw his plight and managed to help him. It is not clear what exchange Prometheus and Chiron made, but the Titan made Chiron mortal, and enabled him to leave the Earth and go up to the heavens.

Tue, 01/18/2011 - 07:48 by Jeff JawerThe "news" of the discovery that the astrological signs are wrong exploded in a media frenzy last week. It's been said that "Truth is the first casualty of war," which was certainly the case here. This is a long-standing struggle waged against Astrology by astronomers who periodically repeat the big lie that the signs of the zodiac are wrong. It takes less than 30 minutes of research to debunk this falsehood, but some so-called scientists are so threatened by astrology's existence that they allow their fears to overcome reason.
An honest inquiry into the subject would show that astrologers have been using a seasonally-based system called the Tropical Zodiac for over 2,000 years. Aries, the first sign, begins on the first day of spring, Cancer on the first day of summer, etc. 99% of astrologers in the western world use the Tropical Zodiac and know that it does not align with the constellations. The big lies are that we use the stars to determine the signs and that we don't know what measurements we're using.
I've recently mentioned the possibility of runaway polemics with expansive, judgmental and philosophical Jupiter joined with disruptive Uranus in emotional Pisces. This non-story story of the zodiac and the reactions to it are a good example of such a loss of reason. Only it's not us fuzzy minded metaphysical types who slipped off the reality track; it's the supposedly logical scientists whose glasses are so fogged with their emotional illusions that they make factual lies about Astrology. I spent two days online challenging an astronomer quoted in the New York Times to provide evidence for his claims about what zodiac astrologers use now and have used historically. He never cited one source for his assertion. I presented the simple and direct evidence of Ptolemy's "Tetrabiblos," the foundation text of western Astrology published in the second century AD. You can find Harvard's Loeb Classical Library version online and do a word search for "Tropical," and will find that the seasons, not the stars, are how the signs are determined. Recently, the media has carried a story claiming that the astrological signs are all “in the wrong place” – and that you are really a different Sun sign than you thought you were. I have received so many email queries about this story that I have prepared a form response, below. In addition, I have written the January 23 Astral Reflections column preamble on this subject, to explain the actual facts about “the signs.”
As you know, the recent assertion that there are really 13 zodiac signs, and that all the signs are in the wrong place, comes from an astronomer in Minnesota. This astronomer has declared that there should be a 13th sign, “Ophiuchus,” and that Scorpio should only cover 6 birth dates, rather than the usual 30 days. (Presumably Oppy gets to shoulder Scorpio from the sky.) He claims his views are based on ancient Babylonian beliefs. Let me get this straight – an astronomer, whose views are respected because he’s a “scientist,” is attacking astrology because he’s inspired by ancient Babylonian beliefs? That’s the basis of his argument? Why doesn’t he just say, “my Mummy told me so.”
At the very least, his history is bent – evidence suggests that astrology emerged between 5,000 and 7,000 years ago in India, not Babylon, and that the system of 12 Sun signs has been in effect virtually since that time – even the Bible, contemporaneous with Babylonian civilization, implies 12 signs. Wikipedia says about this supposed 13th sign: “Ophiuchus and some of the fixed stars in it were sometimes used by astrologers in antiquity as extra-zodiacal indicators (i.e. astrologically significant celestial phenomena lying outside of the 12-sign zodiac proper).” If we follow our astronomer’s logic, we should actually have 88 signs, since astrologers have recognized 88 constellations for millennia. Yet, while using these constellations as sources of meaning, they have never elevated them to Sun signs. Astrologers have also used about 200 individual stars for meanings, but that does not make 200 zodiac signs!

There is more to Pluto than lounging around drinking red wine and talking about Jane Austen though. This is a serious player in the field of astrological archetypes. The myth (Pisceans love myths so I will share it) revolves around desire and betrayal.
Pluto desired Proserpina and took her, much to her mother’s horror. She went into a deep decline of rage and depression, while Prosperina found her loyalties torn in two, when she realised she had been seduced by Pluto, yet owed it to her mother (and everyone else – Prosperpina was starving the planet) to time-share.
They found Pluto and named him, for this Roman myth, in 1930 when both the Nazi party and the atomic bomb were being seeded. The global power sharing agreement that is now the United Nations came about as a result of 1930.
So apply this to your book group now, or your yoga class, or your rock band, and see what’s giving. In truth, Pluto episodes can sometimes feel like soap operas or operas. And yet they are very much about power sharing agreements. Negotiating equal space, energetically and emotionally, for all participants.
And thus your friends or acquaintances within this network. Or perhaps your feelings about a group outside you, if you always feel as it is about Myself versus Them.
