Kotopoulo Kokkinisto - Chicken Cacciatore Greek Style
"A Greek version of chicken cacciatore is stewed in tomato sauce much as the Italian classic, but the seasonings are quite different, we learned from two cooks who shared their recipes to help D.L. celebrate her great-uncle's 75th birthday. The only clue he'd given her was that the dish was made with chicken, tomatoes and lemon and served over pasta. "My family is of Greek descent, so I am familiar with Greek cooking," wrote Tonia Papandropoulos. "I recognize the description of the chicken dish as it is very common in Greek cuisine and is called kotopoulo kokkinisto. The only part of the description that I do not know about is the inclusion of lemon in the recipe. Lemon can always be added by the person making the dish or by the person enjoying it."

Burglars create jobs in Greece
Greece’s economic crisis is creating an unexpected boom for at least one industry.
Banks, stores and companies are hiring security guards, installing alarm systems and renting armored cars as rising hardship leads to an increase in crime. Britain’s G4S Plc and Brink’s Co. of the U.S., along with Pyrsos Security, Greece’s largest domestic private security firm, are winning new clients.
“Here in Greece we never had this situation,” said Sakis Tsaoussis, president of Athens-based Pyrsos, which counts Agricultural Bank SA, Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Co. and retailer Inditex SA among customers. “We could walk anywhere. You could sleep with the windows open. Now we are scared.”
Robberies, ranging from street muggings to bank hold-ups and house burglaries, totaled about 80,000 in 2009, up from about 50,000 in 2005, data compiled by ICAP Group’s Athens office show. The increase occurred as the unemployment rate rose to a 10-year high of 11.8 percent and the government and European Union estimate the Greek economy will contract 4 percent this year and 2.6 percent next year.
Pyrsos’s armored cars were robbed five times in the past 12 months with the thieves getting away with 700,000 euros ($914,000), Tsaoussis said.

Venice Film Festival awards greek actress Rachel Tsangaris
GREEK FILM WINS AWARD AT VENICE FILM FESTIVAL
This year’s Best actress Award in the Venice Film Festival went to Ariane Labed for her performance in Athina-Rachel Tsangaris’ film Attenberg. The 26-year-old actress was born in Athens to French parents and Attenberg was her cinema debut.
Tsangaris’ work includes the video projections for the New Acropolis Museum Opening Ceremony.

Just How Painful Will Greece's Recovery Be?
Greece's statistics service ELSTAT said on Wednesday that gross domestic product in the country shrank 1.8% from the first to the second quarter. That's the steepest quarterly decline since the nation's economy fell into recession at the end of 2008.
And the rest of the year probably won't be any better. Consumers will spend less as they start to feel the effects of the austerity measures that were a stipulation of the 110 billion-euro bail out Greece got from the IMF and the EU last May. And if the government can't cut the deficit by collecting tax revenues - a challenge in a country where people have long evaded income tax - it may be forced to impose a new indirect tax on the petrol that's used to heat homes in winter. That's after already having increased value-added tax on goods by 4%, to 23%, earlier this year.
Greece could find itself caught in a vicious circle, says Yiannis Tsarmougelis, an economics professor at the University of the Aegean, as attempts to tackle debt by imposing new taxes will only further stifle economic growth. "If the government must impose new measures, the economy could even shrink by more than 4%," by year's end, Tsarmougelis says. "It all depends on how well they do collecting tax revenues."

Welcome to 2MM
Evdomada Einai … Kai Kylaei is a Greek-language radio show broadcasted on Sydney’s Greek radio station 2MM. The aim of the show is to inform listeners with key news stories that made the headlines during the week and to entertain with music to chill out in between the news.Although older music is aired the show attempts to showcase the latest from Greece both in pop and folk alternative styles. The show’s name Evdomada Einai … Kai Kylaei roughly translates into English as “The Week That Rolled By”.
The show first aired on 2MM back in October 1998 and has been the longest running show on 2MM. It’s usual timeslot since its inception was on Saturday mornings from 9am to midday. Of course in Greek fashion the show regularly starts around half an hour so late.

Christchurch earthquake
The Otautahi New Zealand earthquake, rated a 7 on the Richter scale, occurred thirty kilometres north west of Christchurch at 4.35 am on Saturday September 4.
Christchurch is the oldest established city in New Zealand, and features some of the country’s finest architecture. It is commonly known as the Gateway to the Antarctic, having been the starting point for the famous Scott and Shackleton expeditions.
The Saturday morning quake, sixteen kilometres underground, caused major power outages, building damage, and also shut down mobile networks. This earthquake quake coincided with the activation of the outer planetary T-Square forming what is known as a Grand Cross formation in the skies.

Mercury
Mercury, the planet of communication,
turns retrograde in Virgo from August 20 to September 12.Three or four times a year,
Mercury appears to move backwards in the sky for approximately three
weeks. This is an optical illusion since no planet actually moves backwards or even
slows down in their orbits around the Sun. However, it appears to move backwards
from our perspective on planet Earth, since the planet may be orbiting at a different speed

to that information as we interact with others.The Leo Sun also opposes Neptune on August 20,
