After an exciting voting in front of 18,000 people in a fully packed Oslo Telenor Arena and millions of TV viewers all over Europe, it was finally Lena from Germany who received the highest number of points from televoters and juries from the 39 countries participating in this year's edition of Europe's Favourite TV-show! Germany managed to gather 246 points altogether, followed by maNga from Turkey with 170 points and Ovi & Paula Selling from Romania who collected 162 points.

Greek-American, Patricia Field is to thank for dressing the women in runway styles . “Carrie’s filled her ginormous closet and is living the life with Big, Samantha is taking more pills than an octogenarian, Miranda seems to have found the balance between mom and professional woman, and Charlotte — shocker — is crumbling under the pressure of being mother to two children. Then a little sparkle comes in, shaped in the form of a flirty Penelope Cruz, Stanford wears white to his wedding where Liza Minelli performs, and the girls jump at the chance for an all-expenses-paid trip to Abu Dhabi, where Carrie seems to relive the events of Season Three.” Sex and the City 2 was filmed partially in Morocco, a country that attracts new movie productions and is considered a film paradise with the fiscal incentives it provides filmmakers. Greece has been trying to do the same and attract more films to the country.

Talking to Greek MTV, Sarah Jessica Parker stated “I would love to make “Sex And the City 3″ in Greece and especially in Mykonos”. She added that she would like to work out the logistics with the Greek authorities. With every given chance Parker who visits often the Aegean says that she is in love with the country and ready to buy a house there.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Oslo on Saturday night. Josh Dubovie will be representing the United Kingdom with his song That Sounds Good To Me, penned by popmeisters Mike Stock, Pete Waterman and Steve Crosby. Can he better the credible fifth place of last year's UK entrant Jade Ewen (ably supported by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber)?
Josh's entry aside, the participants are a mixed bag of heartfelt ballads and campy Europop, which is what we love about Eurovision after all. A competition for statisticians and mathematicians, run by Kaggle, puts Azerbaijan's Safura, singing Drip Drop, in first place, followed by Germany (Satellite, sung by Lena) and Armenia (Apricot Stone, sung by Eva Rivas). Azerbaijan and Armenia will of course need to make it through the semi-final tonight to be sure of performing on Saturday.

Medea (Greek: Μήδεια, Mēdeia) is a woman in Greek mythology. She was the daughter of King Aeλtes of Colchis, niece of Circe, granddaughter of the sun god Helios, and later wife to the hero Jason, with whom she had two children: Mermeros and Pheres. In Euripides's play Medea, Jason leaves Medea when Creon, king of Corinth, offers him his daughter, Creusa or Glauce. The play tells of how Medea gets her revenge on her husband for this betrayal.

Homer often calls him simply Titan or Hyperion, while Hesiod (Theogony 371) and the Homeric Hymn separate him as a son of the Titans Hyperion and Theia (Hesiod) or Euryphaessa (Homeric Hymn) and brother of the goddesses Selene, the moon, and Eos, the dawn. CNN - 7.2 Magnitude earthquake near Vanuatu

(CNN) -- A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck near the Pacific island of Vanuatu Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake prompted the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center to issue a regional tsunami warning for Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.

"It is not known that a tsunami was generated," the Warning Center said in a bulletin. "This warning is based only on the earthquake evaluation. An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines in the region near the epicenter within minutes to hours."

My Favorite Love Story - The Thornbirds

The Thorn Birds is a 1977 best-selling novel by Colleen McCullough, an Australian author.


In 1983 it was adapted as a television mini-series that, during its television run March 27-30, became the United States' second highest rated mini-series of all time behind Roots; both series were produced by television veteran David L. Wolper.

The mini-series starred Richard Chamberlain, Rachel Ward, Barbara Stanwyck, Christopher Plummer, Bryan Brown, Mare Winningham, Philip Anglim, and Jean Simmons. It was directed by Daryl Duke.
Set primarily on Drogheda, a fictional sheep station in the Australian outback, the story focuses on the Cleary family and spans the years 1915 to 1969.
The epic begins with Meghann "Meggie" Cleary, a four-year-old girl living in New Zealand in the early twentieth century, the only daughter of Paddy, an Irish farm labourer, and Fee, his harassed but aristocratic-looking wife. Although Meggie is a beautiful child with curly red-gold hair, she receives little coddling and must struggle to hold her own against her numerous older brothers. Of these brothers, her favourite is the eldest, Frank, a rebellious young man who is unwillingly preparing himself for the blacksmith's trade. He is much shorter than his brothers, but very strong; also, unlike the other Clearys, he has black hair and eyes.


Paddy is poor, but has a wealthy sister, Mary Carson, who lives in Australia on an enormous sheep station called Drogheda. One day, Paddy receives a letter from Mary offering him a job on her estate. He accepts, and the whole family moves to the Outback.

Here Meggie meets Father Ralph de Bricassart, a young, capable, and ambitious priest who, as punishment for insulting a bishop, has been relegated to a remote parish in the town of Gillanbone, near Drogheda. Ralph has befriended Mary, hoping a hefty enough bequest from her to the Catholic church might liberate him from his exile. Ralph is strikingly handsome; "a beautiful man"; and Mary, who doesn't bother to conceal her desire for him, often goes to great lengths to see if he can be induced to break his vows. Ralph blandly shrugs off these attentions and continues his visits. Meanwhile, he cares for all the Clearys and soon learns to cherish beautiful but forlorn little Meggie. Meggie, in return, makes Ralph the centre of her life.

Souvlaki Hut in Melbourne

A Melbourne Greek restaurant chain with under 20 outlets is at the top of a survey measuring the satisfaction level of Australian franchisees, according to market research group, 10 Thousand Feet.

Souvlaki Hut, founded by Bill and John Fotiadis in 2004 in the Melbourne suburb of Hillside, was ranked number one in a survey of 900 franchisees from more than 50 franchise systems in Australia, outranking the larger Quest Serviced Apartments and Frontline Recruitment.
Franchisees ranked SouvlakiHut, which has 16 outlets, for their intention to renew franchises, the level of financial and social rewards, lifestyle, support and opportunities.
Ian Krawitz, Head of Intelligence at 10 Thousand Feet, said it was a surprise for a relatively small franchise system to come out on top.
''But when we examined Souvlaki Hut's success in more detail, it was clear that its focus on training and supporting its franchisees was the deciding factor,'' he said.
The survey ranked waterless car washing franchise Ecowash Mobile in 4th place, followed by Beaumont Tiles, Xpresso Delight, Mortgage Choice (which has more than 400 franchises) and ANZ Mortgage Solutions.

Murbah appeared on the Greek menu in 1903, a year after the town was incorporated as a municipality, when E. Comino of the Premier Oyster Saloon in Brisbane, Purveyor to His Excellency Sir Herbert Chermside, started running regular large adverts in the local papers urging all Northern NSW travellers to his fair city to give E.C. a trial. ‘E.C.’ was in fact the alias of the tricky Freeleagus Bros taking advantage of the high-profile Comino brand name, which was almost synonymous with oyster saloons by then. But they gave up on their entreaties to the Murbahians a couple of years later when Samio & Andronico brought the first physical Greek presence to town. Grand celebrations took place on Saturday 27May1905 when this pair opened The Sydney Oyster Saloon in Main Street, about where the Pouloudis fruit shop in the present Tweed Fruit Exchange building now stands.

Samio was 17yr old Athanasios Anastasios Aloizos and Andronico was 19yr old Theodoros Constantinos Andronicos. Athanasios (Arthur) was as tricky as the Freeleagus and alternated between his two names over the three years he spent in town. He landed in mid 1903 and went straight to Coonamble to join Andronicos, both moving out together around late 1904, Andronicos to Casino and Samios to Sydney, before they met up again in Murbah. They were both being economical with the truth when they advertised that ‘Our experience has been gained in the leading Metropolitan Saloons’. Andronicos had landed in 1901 and spent all his time out west while Samios could only claim 8mths in Sydney. (Who staked the two teenagers is a mystery, but 18mths later the first Greek oyster saloon appeared in Tenterfield with much the same opening adverts - Andronico Bros... Their experience has been gained in the LEADING METROPOLITAN SALOONS..., and claiming they had branches at Tenterfield, Muswellbrook, Casino and Murwillumbah, perhaps implying the Tenterfield Andronicos, Con, Stan, David and Charlie, the sons of the Reverend Father Theo of Kousounari on Kythera, were the benefactors.)

Australia in the mid-20th century was a boom time for a type of business that has all but disappeared. With names like the Paragon, the Olympia or the Parthenon, and often with an art deco facade, the Greek cafe used to be a part of everyday Australian life. A Queensland researcher is now trying document this often overlooked chapter of recent Australian history, and has self-published a book on the subject entitled Aphrodite and the Mixed Grill.

As Peter McCutcheon discovered, this part of history for many Greek Australians is still very much alive.


PETER MCCUTCHEON: Angelo Pippos is one of the last of his kind. His business in western NSW is a rare living example of a phenomenon that swept the country nearly a century ago: the Greek cafe.
