Underbelly is a 13-part Australian television mini-series, retelling the real events of the 1995–2004 gangland war in Melbourne. Firass Dirani (pronounced Feh-ress; born 29 April 1984) is an Australian actor who is best known for his roles of Nick Russell, the Red Mystic Ranger, in "Power Rangers", 'Charlie' in the 2009 Australian movie 'The Combination', and as John Ibrahim in the 2010 series Underbelly: The Golden Mile.
Dirani was born in Sydney, Australia of Lebanese descent. His parents migrated to Australia in 70's, as refugees from war-ravaged Lebanon. He completed his high school education at St Paul's Grammar School, Sydney, where he studied the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme rather than the HSC. His subjects included Theatre.
At age 18 Firass enrolled at the Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT) in Sydney, Australia instead of taking up a place at university Law School. He was accepted straight into the Professional Acting Diploma at ACTT without the need for any beginners or intermediate classes.
He was in a long-term relationship with his Power Ranger co-star, Melanie Vallejo and is currently single. Dirani was due to pursue his acting career in Hollywood before receiving a call to play the role of John Ibrahim.

Daryl Hannah helps with the fight to stop killing dolphins

Ric O'Barry, a former dolphin trainer and main character in Oscar-winning documentary The Cove, said he had invited Daryl and other Hollywood stars to the village to prevent the killings from starting again.

Ric, whose documentary has been cancelled in Japan following threats against cinema, said Daryl had confirmed her trip to the music festival he is holding in Taiji.
Other celebrities who have already voiced their support for his cause include Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Jason Mraz, Chris Tashima and Robin Williams who have all appeared in an advert in support of The Cove.
Ric believes his trip to Taiji last year with journalists brought international attention to the hunt and helped pressure fishermen to refrain from culling dolphins. This year he said he wants to bring 1,000 people to make sure the hunt doesn't start up again.

World’s biggest breast surgery - Sheyla Hershey massive 38kkk

SHEYLA Hershey’s massive 38KKK breasts have been declared the world’s biggest breast surgery.

The 28-year-old American housewife and model has undergone nine ops to get her amazing figure. And even though medics have warned that her breasts are in danger of exploding, she does not seem to care. Sheyla, from Houston, Texas, said: “To me, big is beautiful. I don’t think I have anything to worry about.”

She had to go to Brazil for her last op after US doctors refused to carry out any more surgery on her. Now Sheyla is in the record books for having the largest breast implants ever. Her British ex-boyfriend started paying for her plastic surgery, but she left him after he begged her to stop.

She said: “I loved him very much but I had to leave him to follow my dream.”

 The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2 has opened at #2 of the Greek box office.
Paramount Pictures reports that the film sold 43,000 tickets on 50 screens, behind Sex and the City 2 with 50,000 tickets on 100 screens. No euro figures were provided, and international box office sites have not yet updated their results fro Greece.
The film, which received financing from the Greek Film Centre and Greek distributor Odeon S.A., has made $4.1m in Australia since its release on May 20.

Greek-Australian actor/comedian Nick Giannopoulos, who shot to fame after the hit Aussie comedy The Wog Boy in 2000, not only took the stigma out of the derogatory nickname ‘Wog’, he subsequently made a prolific career out of it. Ten years after The Wog Boy became the 13^th Australian film to ever to break $10 million mark at the local box office, Giannopoulos has done something that few Aussie filmmakers ever get the chance to; he’s made a sequel. Written, produced and starred in a sequel, to be more precise.

In The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2, Giannopoulos returns alongside Vince Colosimo as Steve and Frank, two Greek-Australians who leave Melbourne for the gorgeous Greek isle of Mykonos in order to claim an expensive family heirloom. Of course, recovering their inheritance isn’t as straightforward as it sounds, as Steve and Frank discover they’re not nearly as Greek as they originally thought they were.

Despite being involved in a heated interview with a local Adelaide radio station just prior to our interview, Giannopoulos was in good spirits as we sat down to talk about his new film, which hits cinemas across Australia on May 20^th.

St. Nicholas and Demitrios Church Summer Festival 2010

The Vancouver Greek Summer Festival is an annual celebration of food, entertainment,and family fun -- from the famous "Roast Lamb" and "Loukoumades" (a specialty Greek dessert)to the dozens of live singers and dancers on the Performance Stage to face-painting for the children(and adults!).

The first Greek Summer Festival was held in 1987 as a small weekend event, attended mostly by members of the St. Nicholas & Dimitrios Church as a fundraiser for the church. Since then, the festival (now simply known as "Greek Fest") has grown to 10 days over two weekends, encompassing the Canada Day Holiday.
It is now attended by almost 40,000 people from all areas of the culturally diverse Lower Mainland, as well as many visitors from around the world.

Greek Fest has always been free to attend and is run entirely by volunteers. All proceeds go back to the community, whether to finish the church or to various charities and community organizations. In the past, Greek Fest has supported St. John Ambulance,Collingwood Neighborhood House, BC Children's Hospital, and the Vancouver Fire Fighters Burn Fund and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC and Yukon.

To help serve the members of the community better, the St. Nicholas & Dimitrios Church will be starting a multi-year,multi-million dollar project to build a Community Centre. This Community Centre will be home to a Greek Orthodox School, and will also include a gymnasium and meeting rooms for various after-school and sports activities and programs open to everyone.

Proceeds from Greek Fest over the next few years will be instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.

The famous Turkish song Konyali is very well known throughout Greece. Naturally it was already sung and danced by the Greeks of Anatolia- Karamanlis, Cappadocians Pontians and others. A version with Greek lyrics was first recorded by Roza Eskenazi in the 1930s. the tune was known also throughout Thrace and was danced as either a free style "Koutsos" or as a "Laisios" - a game dance imitating a hunter, rabbit and dog. In Konya itself and in Central Anatolia it is most often danced playing spoons "Kasik Havasi" or as a Kocek/Kiotsetsi

Anatolitika/Oriental - Greek Urban Music from Smyrna

The sub genre of "Anatolitika" or "Oriental" in Greek urban song touches the areas of rebetika, smyrneika and light theatre tunes (epitheorasis). Usually a Greek orientalist view of the "East" of pashas, maharajahs, harems and sultry females, musically it is a melange of east and west with elements of Greek Turkish and Arabic music with often strong Latin influences and a Hollywood feel. These songs, starting with a few examples in the 20s and 30s (Miserlou being one of the early examples - see my Misirlou upload), became very popular in the late 40s and 50s.
