I would like to contend that it is the energies of rational thought (swords) and intuition (wands) that are symbolically opposed to each other. And they don't have to be. We can learn to bring our intelligence and our intuition into balance. Our rational thinking is best served when there is an intuitive understanding of the situation, just as our intuition needs a rational foundation to build with. These two "opposing' sides of the mind need not be mutually exclusive. They are meant to complement each other as all oppositions are. This serves our Venus in Gemini well, since Gemini can describe both the mortal (rational) and the immortal (intuitive) mind.
