Everywhere in Greece there is a habit to tie the left, or both hands just above the wrist, a bracelet made of red and white thread. The thread that enters the first of March, and falls on its own, or exits the last day of March, they took the name "March".
In March the wear especially in young children, "not to catch the eye," or in another version, to be 'the sun tans. " Symbolically white and red color is found often when the superstition is to prevent any harm. This is also mentioned by ancient Greek writers. The Artemidorus in "dream book"  relates the various crowns of witches, the Virgil in " Bucolic "  mentions colorful roadmap peridemenous three times a picture lover for him mesmerized. The report Petronios similar sorcery, where colorful tie warp the neck. The Byzantines reported the use of painted thread against incantations. In the Eleusinian mysteries in ancient times the young initiates wore egg in his right hand and leg. It is thus very ancient custom, or a similar ancient custom.
